This is the story of how I went from Army wife to Army wife (Retired). It is a time of reflection. We married in 2000 - and the next day drove from Savannah to Fort Knox for Soldier Hubby to attend a 3-week course. when it was over, I rejoined him for 3 weeks and then he went to Korea. For a year.
None of that was a surprise. I was even sure he'd deploy. And he did. I'm sure there will be reflections on that later.
Now, we've been at Fort Bliss for just over a year and a half and we're in the middle of working through the retirement PCS. I've known for nearly a year he was going to retire - but the packet didn't get dropped until 1 September, ironically, the day of our military ball.
We're going to retire to Killeen. Perhaps there will be reflection on that process later.
We have a house in Killeen where the tenants were supposed to remain until May. Technically their lease was up 31 January - but we had asked/offered them to stay and they agreed. initially.
Now, they're out and we're pulling together a move with the shortest notice we've ever encountered. Gone is the time to procrastinate (although, I basically am, through blogging).
I am an Army wife of nearly 12 years, a Mom of 2 wonderful boys (5.5 years and 4 years), a part time worker, a recovering volunteer.
This duty station nearly did me in on a personal level. I look forward to getting back to my friends in Central Texas. I know I can't go home again - I expect nothing really to be as it was so I hope to be pleasantly surprised when somethings fall back into the old pattern.
The dates are set and I'm ready to roll. Stay tuned for the musings of this transitioning army wife...
